An extensively illustrated reference exploring the history, artistry, and technical development of American daguerreotype photography. Historic portraits and detailed research bring early photographic practice to life, making this a valuable resource for antique photograph collectors, dealers, photography historians, and readers interested in nineteenth-century America.

Coverage includes photographic equipment and processes, stereoscopic daguerreotypes, coloring techniques, portraiture, miniature cases, and the development of the American photographic trade. Includes biographical listings of photographers, manufacturers, and suppliers, along with hallmark tables, patent records, a dictionary of daguerreotype terms, and an index.

Very Good book in a Good dust jacket. Blue cloth boards show minor wear, with light age toning to the page edges. Dust jacket has noticeable surface rubbing, scratches, edge creasing, small tears, and chipping at the corners and spine ends. Photographed interior pages appear clean and well preserved.
