THE GLOBE BEAM — June–July 1944
Volume III, Number 6
Globe Aircraft Corporation, Fort Worth, Texas
Original World War II employee magazine published primarily for Globe Aircraft Corporation personnel. This illustrated issue documents aircraft production, military aviation, and factory life during the summer of 1944, combining wartime reporting with photographs of the people behind the company’s manufacturing operations.
The striking blue cover features Globe’s GC-1 Swift with a line of AT-10 trainer aircraft and a superimposed $100 War Savings Bond, accompanied by “Back the Attack with Bonds—Buy More Than Before!” The cover is dated July 1944; the interior masthead identifies the issue as June–July 1944.
Highlights include:
• “Now It’s X-Day”—a wartime editorial written after D-Day, urging continued work and war-bond purchases toward victory over Germany.
• “End of the Line”—an account of Globe’s approaching completion of its AT-10 trainer production contract.
• “Wing Rework Project Moving Fast”—photographs and reporting on the company’s AT-17 and UC-78 wing-overhaul program.
• “Materiel Command”—an illustrated feature discussing Army Air Forces research, aircraft development, equipment, and production, including the B-29 Superfortress.
• “Globe Aircraft Hall of Honor”—employee profiles and workplace photography.
• “Globe’s 1944 War Girls”—photographs of company entrants in the Fort Worth Press contest.
• A full-page rear-cover production message featuring machine-shop foreman Fred S. Crook and discussing employee stock ownership.
A compelling contemporary record of the American aviation home front, with particular appeal for Globe Swift enthusiasts, military-aircraft collectors, and researchers of Fort Worth’s wartime industry.
Condition: Good overall vintage condition. Covers show scattered foxing and age spotting, surface soiling, rubbing, and edge and corner wear, with small nicks along the spine. Foxing is particularly noticeable on the rear cover and portions of the front. Interior pages show age toning and light handling wear; the photographed text and illustrations remain clear. Staples show oxidation with localized staining at the center fold. The magazine retains strong visual appeal despite its exterior wear.
