Original November 1904 issue of the Lewis & Clark Journal, Vol. II, No. 5, with accompanying period advertising material related to Portland’s 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition.
Illustrated articles and photographs document preparations for the exposition, including buildings under construction, exhibition grounds, and planned attractions. Period advertisements feature railroads, Oregon farmland, industry, and travel, offering a glimpse of the Pacific Northwest at the beginning of the twentieth century.
An appealing grouping for collectors of world’s fairs, Portland and Oregon history, railroad advertising, and antique printed ephemera.
Includes the journal and separated cover/advertising material pictured, plus a Northern Pacific Railway exposition advertisement from The Booklovers Magazine. The separate advertisement has additional travel advertising on its reverse.
Condition: Fair overall. Some journal pages are loose, with binding separation and tears along portions of the inner margins. Covers and advertising sheets show age toning, edge wear, small tears, and scattered marks. Rust staining is present around staple holes, and the pink advertising sheet has an old tape repair near its lower edge. Completeness has not been verified. Please review all photographs for condition and included material.
