Cold War nuclear-weapons history, emergency planning, and United States military operations are documented in this scarce October 1989 Defense Nuclear Agency publication, Nuclear Accident Response Capability Listing. Issued by the Joint Nuclear Accident Coordinating Center under publication number DNA 5100.52.1L, this substantial operational directory identified Department of Defense and Department of Energy installations, facilities, ships, commands, EOD organizations, medical units, and other activities capable of responding to a nuclear accident or radiological emergency. Individual entries record installations and units throughout the United States and overseas, their emergency contact information as it existed in 1989, service affiliation, and available response capabilities. The volume also contains its distribution lists and an official transmittal page from Colonel Edward S. Tooley, USAF, Assistant Director for Nuclear Operations. A fascinating surviving primary source showing how the United States organized and coordinated nuclear-accident response during the closing years of the Cold War. No security-classification marking was observed on the volume. Softcover, staple-bound publication shows handling wear, cover toning, light soiling, edge and corner wear, and a former owner’s name written on the front cover. An institutional bookplate is present inside. Interior pages remain clean, firmly attached, and highly readable overall. Please examine all photographs for the exact condition and contents.
