Political Memoir / American Conservatism: Overdrive: A Personal Documentary offers an unusually intimate portrait of William F. Buckley Jr., founder and editor of National Review and longtime host of Firing Line. Rather than presenting a traditional chronological autobiography, Buckley documents a single exceptionally active week of his life, using it to explore his political views, writing, public appearances, family, friendships, sailing, travel, and private interests.
Written in Buckley’s distinctive, energetic style, the book gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most influential voices in twentieth-century American conservatism. Numerous black-and-white photographs accompany the narrative, capturing Buckley, his family, associates, travels, and public life. The rear jacket also features an extended endorsement from author Kurt Vonnegut.
Published by Doubleday in 1983. This is the Book Club Edition hardcover with its original dust jacket.
The hardcover itself remains solid and attractive, with clean gray boards, a black cloth spine, and bright red endpapers. Interior pages appear generally clean and well preserved. The dust jacket has substantial wear, including tears, chipping, creasing, edge losses, rubbing, and heavier damage around the spine ends and corners. Please review all photographs for the exact condition.
