Original 1929 hardcover edition of On the Bottom by Commander Edward Ellsberg, published by Dodd, Mead & Company, a classic U.S. Navy naval-salvage narrative detailing early submarine recovery operations and fully illustrated with photographic plates and technical diagrams. This copy includes the original dust jacket, now housed in a clear protective sleeve; the jacket shows heavy chipping, edge tears, paper losses, and tape repairs, particularly along the top edge and rear panel, but remains present and visually appealing for its age. The book itself is solid with firm binding, clean interior pages showing normal age toning, and no missing pages noted. Interior contains a period owner inscription dated 1929 along with an ex-libris bookplate. Boards remain attractive, submarine cutaway diagrams and photo plates are intact, and overall the volume presents well despite the jacket flaws. A desirable early printing of an important naval history title and scarce with any surviving dust jacket, making this a strong collectible for maritime and military history collectors.
