Inua: Spirit World of the Bering Sea Eskimo by William W. Fitzhugh and Susan A. Kaplan explores the art, spiritual beliefs, and traditional everyday life of Alaska’s Bering Sea peoples.

Richly illustrated with historical photographs, maps, and detailed images of Indigenous objects, this Smithsonian volume connects artistic craftsmanship with hunting, village life, storytelling, and ceremonial traditions. Carvings, woven baskets, snow goggles, snowshoes, fishing equipment, and other objects reveal the close relationship between practical tools and spiritual meaning.

An absorbing reference for collectors of Alaska Native art, students of anthropology, and readers interested in Arctic history, folklore, and traditional material culture.

Published in 1982 by Smithsonian Institution Press for the National Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C. Softcover. Contributions by Henry B. Collins, Thomas Ager, Dorothy Jean Ray, and Saradell Ard Frederick. Includes an extensive reference section.

Good condition overall. Covers show rubbing, scratches, and scuffing, most noticeably on the back, along with creasing and edge and corner wear. Covers and page block have some bowing. An opening page shows a small tear near the inner margin and faint marks near the upper corner. Light age toning and occasional small spots are present. The illustrated interior remains attractive, with no highlighting visible in the pages shown. Please review all photographs for condition and details.
