World War II / Pearl Harbor / Diplomatic History. An original Japanese wartime publication documenting the breakdown of negotiations between Japan and the United States immediately preceding the Pacific War.
Written by Japanese diplomat and Special Envoy Saburō Kurusu, who traveled to Washington in November 1941 and personally participated in the final diplomatic negotiations with Secretary of State Cordell Hull before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Published in Japan in December 1942, approximately one year after the negotiations failed.
The Japanese title translates as The Flashpoint of the Greater East Asia War: The Course of U.S.–Japan Negotiations. This first-edition wartime volume was published by the Tokyo Nichi Nichi and Osaka Mainichi newspaper organizations.
In addition to Kurusu’s account, the approximately 190-page book includes the full Roberts Commission Report concerning the Pearl Harbor attack, Japanese commentary on the report, a chronology of the negotiations, photographs, and other supporting material. It presents the official wartime Japanese interpretation of the diplomatic breakdown and American findings concerning Pearl Harbor, making it a compelling primary-source artifact from the conflict itself.
Softcover in good, complete, readable vintage condition. The covers show noticeable rubbing, fading, discoloration, edge wear, and wear along the spine. Pages exhibit age toning, scattered foxing, and occasional spotting. A small tear and opening are present near an interior binding staple, as photographed, but the volume remains intact and usable. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
The decorative display letter opener shown in the photographs is for display purposes only and is not included.
