Military History / Naval Engineering
An extensive pre-WWII United States Naval Institute technical volume covering the machinery that powered American naval vessels during the interwar period. Published in Annapolis in 1935, the book combines four major sections: naval turbines, naval reciprocating engines, naval auxiliary machinery and naval boilers.
Filled with technical photographs, engineering diagrams and large folding illustrations depicting turbines, reduction gearing, steam systems, engine components and other shipboard machinery. Several of the folding drawings remain in good displayable condition. An impressive historical reference for collectors of early U.S. Navy material, marine engineering and vintage industrial technology.
This is a heavily used and substantially damaged working copy. The spine covering is largely detached and held in place with extensive old cloth tape. Both covers and the text block show heavy wear, rubbing, soiling, fraying, looseness and age-related discoloration. Pages contain writing, underlining and other former-owner markings, including blue ink. Some pages and folding illustrations have edge wear, creasing or tears. The book remains usable for reference, and many illustrations and technical drawings are still clear and attractive. No claim of completeness is made. Please review every photograph carefully for the exact condition and contents.
