Virginia history and Civil War autobiography chronicling the life of Henry Robinson Pollard. An appealing original source for collectors of Confederate history, Richmond and Virginia history, genealogy, Reconstruction, and Southern memoirs. Published by Lewis Printing Company of Richmond in 1923, this first edition contains 443 pages with portraits, illustrations, genealogical material, and Pollard’s recollections spanning his early life, Civil War experiences, and later years. Original burgundy cloth hardcover with gilt page edges and Pollard’s facsimile signature stamped on the front cover. The rear inner hinge/binding is completely torn and separated, exposing the binding material and spine lining; the rear board remains connected by the exterior cloth but should be handled carefully. The front hinge also has a partial split with exposed mesh. Spine is faded with wear and tearing at the head, boards show general shelf wear, and the pages have age toning and scattered marks. The interior text block otherwise appears readable and substantially intact. Please review all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
