An antique instructional textbook for learning Latin grammar, syntax, translation, and written composition. Charles E. Bennett—professor of Latin at Cornell University—organized the book into progressive lessons covering grammatical constructions, vocabulary, examples, and English-to-Latin exercises. Topics include the ablative, infinitive, indirect discourse, conditional sentences, participles, and other essential elements of classical Latin.

Part of Bennett’s Latin Series and published by Allyn and Bacon. Copyright dates of 1912 and 1919 are printed inside. Original green cloth hardcover with gilt front-cover and spine lettering. Approximately 292 pages.

Acceptable antique condition. The cloth covers show rubbing, discoloration, spotting, faded lettering, and wear along the edges, corners, and spine ends. Page edges are toned with age. Several former owners’ names, addresses, vocabulary notes, and other writing appear on the front endpapers. Scattered handwritten lesson notes, answers, corrections, and markings are present throughout the text, as shown. The front hinge shows wear but remains attached, and the binding is intact overall. No missing pages observed during inspection. A genuine working schoolbook with visible evidence of its long instructional use. Please review all photographs carefully for the exact condition and extent of the writing.
