1917 Garden Flowers of Summer Ellen Eddy Shaw Pocket Guide Color Plates

$30.00
A charming antique pocket botanical guide featuring summer garden flowers with numerous attractive color illustrations. Written by Ellen Eddy Shaw and edited by Leonard Barron, the book provides concise descriptions of popular flowering plants along with information about their appearance, cultivation, garden value, and propagation. Individual entries cover flowers and plants such as Sweet Sultan, Telegraph Plant, Matrimony Vine, and many others. Its small oblong format, green-and-gilt binding, and period botanical artwork give it strong decorative appeal for collectors of antique gardening books, botanical illustration, flower guides, and early twentieth-century nature publications.

Published in 1917 by Doubleday, Page & Company as Volume II of the four-volume Pocket Garden Library. This listing is for Garden Flowers of Summer only—not the complete four-volume series. The publisher originally offered the series in flexible cloth and flexible imitation-leather bindings; this copy has the dark green flexible binding with gilt cover decoration and lettering. Approximately 9 × 15 cm with 251 pages.

Fair condition and suitable as a reading, display, reference, or restoration copy. The binding is heavily worn and fragile. The front inner hinge is completely split, leaving the front cover very loose and substantially separated from the text block. The spine covering has extensive loss, chipping, splitting, and exposed underlying material. Covers have heavy edge and corner wear, rubbing, peeling, and surface loss. Pages show age toning and general handling wear. The color botanical illustrations remain attractive and readable. No writing or highlighting observed during inspection. Because of the fragile binding, the book should be handled carefully. Please examine every photograph for the exact condition and contents of the copy offered.
