Scarce original 1915 handbook documenting the Minnesota State Prison at Stillwater. Published September 1, 1915, this historic booklet provides a contemporary account of the prison’s organization, system of discipline, resident officials, industrial operations, convict labor, twine production, farm-machinery manufacturing, and financial results.
Illustrated throughout and retaining its impressive foldout bird’s-eye view of the new Minnesota State Prison and foldout ground plan identifying the cell houses, administration building, chapel, dining room, court, greenhouse, factories, warehouses, foundry, laundry, and other facilities. The rear cover promotes The Mirror, described as the world’s oldest prison newspaper, founded and produced by inmates beginning in 1887.
Original stapled softcover. Covers show age-related toning, staining, handling wear, and minor edge wear. Interior pages display scattered foxing and toning, with heavier spotting on some preliminary pages. Foldout illustrations remain present and display well, with expected original folds. Binding remains intact. Please review all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
A particularly uncommon piece of early twentieth-century American prison, penal-system, industrial-labor, and Minnesota history.Condition: Acceptable is the safest eBay selection because of the visible foxing and cover staining, even though it is structurally better than many surviving pamphlets.
