Antique 1884 edition of The New Testament in Both the Authorized and Revised Versions, carefully annotated by Howard Crosby, D.D., LL.D., and published in Boston by Charles F. Alden & Company.
This substantial volume presents the traditional Authorized or King James Version alongside the newly issued Revised Version, allowing readers to compare these two important English translations. The Revised Version New Testament had appeared only three years earlier, in 1881, making this an early comparative edition from an important period in the history of biblical translation.
The book contains extensive explanatory notes, textual observations, commentary, and blank pages originally provided for personal annotations. Howard Crosby was a prominent Presbyterian minister, biblical scholar, classical philologist, former chancellor of New York University, and member of the American Revision Committee.
An interesting reference for collectors and readers interested in Christianity, biblical scholarship, theology, the King James Bible, the Revised Version, and nineteenth-century religious publishing.
Original brown hardcover binding with gilt lettering on the front and spine. The exterior shows rubbing, surface marks, worn corners, fraying and loss at the spine ends, splitting near the upper exterior joint, small worn or punctured areas in the cloth, and other age-related wear.
The front inner hinge is heavily split with binding material exposed, and the endpaper is substantially separated along the gutter. The front cover remains attached but should be handled carefully. The title-page gutter also shows wear and separation. The text block remains together, with the primary printed pages generally readable. Pages and page edges show substantial age toning, scattered marks, edge wear, and occasional creasing or irregularities. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition and binding issues.
