Robert Merry’s Museum, edited by S. G. Goodrich, author of Peter Parley’s Tales. An 1847 bound collection of illustrated children’s literature and educational reading, with an engraved title identifying Volumes 13 and 14.

For collectors of early American children’s books, antique illustration and educational history, this volume offers a tangible connection to how young readers encountered nature, other cultures and moral lessons before the Civil War.

Published in New York by G. W. & S. O. Post, 1847. Hardcover binding with leather spine and corners over marbled paper boards. Includes an illustrated frontispiece and decorative engraved title page.

The photographed contents feature “The Royal Tiger,” an illustrated account of Tierra del Fuego, verse and musical notation for “The Lark.” These pages combine striking illustrations with the period’s distinctive approach to instruction and entertainment.

Condition: Fair, with substantial binding wear. Leather and marbled boards are rubbed and worn, with peeling, cracking and loss to the spine covering. The front inner hinge is split, with exposed sewing and old tape repairs. Pages show scattered to heavy foxing, age toning and dampstaining, including pronounced staining to the preliminary leaves. Some leaves have edge wear and small tears. Text and illustrations remain legible in the pages shown. Please examine photographs for details.
